June 22 – SUMMER FAIR
The Summer Fair is just a week away on Friday the 22nd of June from 3.00pm to 5.30pm.
There will be bouncy castles, games, food, a raffle, music and the cake-walk.
Thanks to everyone who bought tickets in advance. The tickets will be going home in back packs starting today. They are stapled in the original order forms. Please look out for them, keep them safe and remember to bring them to the Fair. If you have any questions about tickets please contact Stella at hudsonclassrep@outlook.com.
Tickets will also be available for sale at the ticket desk at the Fair.
The cake-walk at the summer fair is urgently seeking donations of cakes.
If you would like to donate a cake or a set of cup cakes or cookies (home made or store-bought) to the cake-walk please contact Stella for further information at hudsonclassrep@outlook.com.
We are still seeking volunteers for set-up, clean-up and running the fair. It is rewarding and a lot of fun to get involved. If you can spare even just an hour of your time to help make this event a success or if you have any questions about volunteering please contact Carly at carlykrug24@gmail.com
We are welcoming donated prizes for the Raffle. If you have a business that could donate a prize or experience or you could offer a prize either for kids or adults please contact Nina at njanepatel@gmail.com. Or simply drop off your prize in the school office. Please include your name or the company that donated the prize and the approximate value. Thank you.
If you have a song request for DJ Mik to play during the Summer Fair please write down the name of the song and the artist and put it in the white PAC mail box in the office by Friday June 15th.
The Summer Fair is an after school event with no supervision provided. Children should be accompanied by an adult.
It is the Hudson PAC’s policy that no child should miss out on the opportunity to participate due to financial hardship. If you require tickets to the Fair at no cost please advice Mr. Cannon the school Principal.
Activities
Tiny Titans Crossfit, Jr/Sr Choir, Jr/Sr Dance & Young Rembrandts finish up this week. Next week all other activities finish including Art, Soccer, Spanish, Ocean Explorers & Chess.
Planning for activities starting in the new school year in September have been put on hold. This is due to field upgrades and also because we are not sure what classroom space/gym space we will have available to use in the Fall. We hope to get things sorted out and planning started shortly after the school year begins. Have a great summer!
DPAC and Advocacy Update
Thank you to all Hudson parents who took part in the survey organized by parents at General Gordon Elementary to collect data missing from the VSB’s catchment review process on the number of families with younger siblings who would be adversely affected by the proposed boundary changes. The survey results were presented to the VSB last Wednesday evening and are worth a look: go to https://www.vsb.bc.ca/meetings/agendas/meeting-agendas-current, click on the “CTTEE II” tab, then click on the second agenda item, “Boundary Catchment – In-Boundary Siblings”. Partly based on the large amount of parent feedback, the review process has been extended for a year with no changes to be implemented before September 2020.
DPAC’s Annual General Meeting takes place Monday June 18 from 7 pm to 9 pm, in Room 180 at the VSB offices at West Broadway and Fir. For a comprehensive summary of current issues under consideration this month at DPAC, the VSB, the Ministry of Education, and BCCPAC please see DPAC’s June update: http://vancouverdpac.org/generalannouncements/2018/6/1/june-2018-update. This includes details about the current reviews of catchment boundaries, the French Immersion program, and upcoming (June 20) VSB discussion of the BC Hydro substation proposal.
The Ministry of Education is revamping the ERASE bullying website – https://www.erasebullying.ca – and is seeking parent input through a survey:
https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/erase-parent-survey If you know any students who would be interested, there is also a student survey: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/erase-student-survey.
Thanks to a local supporter and call for biking volunteer
Biking season is well upon us as we head into summer! Hudson School has had the good fortune of having sponsorship and a bike shop owner parent who has volunteered many hours to promote safe bicycling at our school.
If you have bike repairs or look to purchase bikes or biking accessories, please think about MORE BIKES, owned by Don Brooks and located at 1856 West 4th Avenue (at Burrard). This shop offers Henry Hudson discounts to students and staff. On any given day you may be served by one of two Hudson graduates, their siblings and/or parents. A big THANK YOU to MORE BIKES from the Hudson community!
Note: The PAC needs a biking enthusiast to run events. Please contact Robert (robert@quokkasystems.com) for more information.
