The Vancouver District Parent Advisory Council is the formal body for parent input to the Vancouver School Board and a resource for individual school PACs, which are all members of the District PAC. DPAC hosts two or three “Citywide” meetings each school year, to which all parents of students in Vancouver public schools are invited. The upcoming fall Citywide offers two concurrent workshops, PAC/PAC treasurer 101 (basically, how PACs work) and grassroots organizing for advocacy for quality public education. The gathering will be at the VSB main office at Broadway and Fir from 6:30 to 9:00 p.m. on Thursday October 13 — please see the attached link for registration details. Any interested parent is welcome to register and attend!

PAC FUNDED EXCITING ENHANCEMENTS (to name just a few!)
Arts Umbrella Drama and Fine Arts In-School Program
The teachers are pleased to have PAC fund this exciting program in which Arts Umbrella will lead 6 concentrated sessions for each Division: a combination of fine arts and drama classes.
Guitars
Teachers really wanted to have access to more music in-school. A handful of the teachers play guitar so they requested at set to be able to work with the kids during school hours and for performances etc. PAC has purchased 30 guitars for in-school use, and as well, we are offering lunchtime and after-school lessons!
Laptops
Last year, PAC purchased a set of 30 laptops. They never ever get a chance to rest! They are used every second of every day. So, we just purchased another set of 30, which will arrive in about a week! The laptops are used by all the Divisions; there are all buddy systems between older students and youngers, and joint projects! Very exciting!
YEAH WE KNOW IT’S ALL ABOUT THE NOT HAVING TO MAKE LUNCHES TUESDAYS AND THURSDAYS! HERE ARE YOUR HOT LUNCH UPDATES!
NEW HOT LUNCH MENU ITEMS!
We have added lots of new menu items this fall and have kept many favourites! Chow Mein, Yakitori Skewers, Thai Lemongrass Chicken or Rice and other fun new dishes added in amongst faves such as pasta meatballs, quesadillas, sushi, butter chicken and burgers. We are offering a larger slice of pizza this term from Panago (which is recommended from VCH as a ‘choose often’ pizza). And to stave off any November blues, we’re launching a Taco Thursday!
PRICE is now $6/Meal.
We held the same price of $5.50/meal for the past 2 years. However the food cost prices of everything have increased quite a bit and we are using extensively far more free range, organic and non-gmo, gluten free ingredients and products. So we have increased our Hot Lunch meal price to $6/meal. The sibling discount is now $1.50 > $4.50/meal.
NO MORE PAYPAL PLEASE!!
As you know, Hudson Hot Lunch is our PAC/school’s main Fundraiser. Other than our supplementary Direct Donation campaign, the Hot Lunch program is the only source of funding for all the wonderful programs, initiatives and events with which we are able to enhance our children’s school experience.
We realized that in the 2014-15 school year, the Hudson PAC paid over $2000 in Paypal/credit card fees. We tried last year to encourage fewer transactions and more cash and cheque payments but ultimately we still lost a huge bundle of money to the plastic! This year we want not to lose that amount money. We’d rather use it for the students!

THANK YOU!
On behalf of the Hudson PAC, a huge thank you to all the volunteer parents who came out to help with ushering the students to and from Kits Pool, and helping out at the Pool. Special kudos to Victoria S. and Marina B. for doing double shifts in the Pool with Savannah, Nina and me! Savannah King was fantastic! The students really enjoyed her talks and loved playing in the pool with her. They showed her their talents and she showed us a few things as well! It was a wonderful afternoon! Kits Pool staff were super great! Thanks very much to Nina for bringing this wonderful Olympian to Hudson! (I think the thing I loved the most was learning that Savannah is scared to death of the ocean!! She only likes to swim in pools… but holy can she swim!!) ~ MP

Arson on Hudson School Grounds Saturday 21 May
It appears that sometime between Saturday after dusk and Sunday morning, someone or a group of people started numerous fires on the Henry Hudson School grounds: they lit up fires in the commercial garbage bins, burnt out the school ground garbages and set fire to the bulletin board.
A police report has been filed #VA1697504. An officer did visit the site already and has documented the damage. The police have also contacted VSB and will set arrangements for an officer to follow up on an investigation after coordinating with VSB/School Admin.
The incidences and severity of vandalism on our school grounds has escalated significantly in the past 8 months. I’d like to ask: Is it time to consider No Trespassing signs or School Ground closed after 10pm … violators will be prosecuted… or something like that? And way more lights on every corner of the grounds and all around the courtyards etc?
