Direct Donation Campaign Update

BIG NEWS – we have reached 80% of our fundraising goal raising $8,083 to date – that is 11 out of 13 laptops! Many, many thanks to the 98 families that have donated for your support, this is so great for the students!
We will be writing the cheque to the school of the total money raised on Tuesday and will now take any remaining donations up until afterschool on Monday. Cash or cheque can be dropped off, with the donation form, in the PAC mailbox in the office OR you can send an etransfer.
If making a donation by e-transfer, please:

  • When you add a recipient, make it “Hudson PAC” with the email HudsonPAC@gmail.com
  • Make sure to send transfers by email and not mobile phone
  • Set up the Security question as follows: What school does your child go to? Answer: Hudson
  • When you send the payment, please make sure to put “Direct Donation” your name, street address, city, province, postal code and phone number. E.g. “Direct Donation, John Smith, 1313 Mockingbird Lane, Vancouver BC V7Z 1Z7, 604-777-7777”
  • Providing this information will make it possible for the VSB to issue a tax receipt, and for Dana to contact you should any question arise. Questions? Please email pactreasurer.dana@gmail.com.

Be sure to read next week’s Weekly Reminders newsletter to see the final total of what was raised during the campaign.
Again, thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

WANT TO VOLUNTEER?
We will be posting an Online Volunteer Signup Form for all parents who wish to volunteer for any Hot Lunch days this term (as well as any other PAC events!). It will be posted in the next few days. Parents will be able to go into the online form and sign up for days and shifts as per your availability. The online form will be available for all Hudson School Community to access. Also this term: we are engaging with students to participate as set up and clean up teams for each Hot Lunch. This fits in well with the Project Based Curriculum set out by BC Govt and VSB, and is highly supported by our Principal and Teachers. It also reduces the toll on parent volunteers.
IN NEED OF A SUBSIDY OR SPONSORSHIP? Please contact Prinicipal Cannon icannon@vsb.bc.ca or Marina Percy marina@freshstrategy.com

Henry Hudson PAC Fundraising – Direct Donation Appeal

October 2016
Dear Hudson Parents,
The PAC raises funds in order to enhance our children’s educational experience beyond what is made possible by public funding – in the recent past PAC funds have gone towards playground equipment, computers, field trips, school supplies, textbooks, special speakers, dance instruction, gymnastics, athletic gear and more. Our Hot Lunch Fundraiser provides most of the income we need to meet our budget goals while providing a much needed service, but in order to get all the way there we need to do some additional fundraising.
In order to meet our 2016-2017 school year budget (which can be viewed on the PAC website) we would like to raise $10,000 through one direct donation appeal now, and not take up your time and energy with a variety of product fundraisers (chocolates, plant sales, Entertainment Books, etc.) throughout the year*. So we are asking you to please consider a donation of $50 per Hudson student in your household. Any amount is of course welcome, and a tax receipt from the Vancouver School Board will be issued for any donation of $10 or more.
PAC budget priorities are set each year in consultation with school administration, staff and parents. The $5,981 raised in last year’s direct donation appeal helped purchase a set of 30 laptops which have been heavily used; we are committed to providing a second set early this coming year so that there is a set on each floor of the school. In order to do this without reducing other budgeted items we need to reach our fundraising target!
Based on this year’s budget, 38% of your donation will go towards resource and classroom materials and field trips for each class, 23% towards activities for the whole school such as dance and athletic programs, 10% towards support for educational trips and off campus outings for senior students, and 17% towards technology upgrades. The remaining 12% of your donation will support a variety of activities throughout the year such as the Winter and Spring Fairs, Sports Day, guest speakers, school athletic teams, the grade 7 leaving ceremony, pumpkin carving, etc.
To donate, please fill out the attached form and return it with your donation to your child’s teacher or to the school office. Donations may also be made through electronic transfer – if you choose this method please follow the instructions on the form.
Providing the contact information requested on the form or with an e-transfer will make it possible for the Vancouver School Board to prepare a tax receipt.
Please be sure to make your donation by November 30.
The PAC executive thanks you for your support!
*Please be aware, however, that other fundraisers not related to the PAC will occur during the school year, such as Grade 7 Grad, ChildRun, Terry Fox Run, etc.

Many parents feel that government funding should cover some of what PACs fundraise for; your PAC executive always encourages people to express their opinions by letter or email to their local MLA and the BC Minister of Education
(educ.minister@gov.bc.ca
).

Lunch Fundraiser Issues and Concerns – New Regulations

On Thursday May 8, 2014 the PAC Executive was informed of changes that come via Vancouver Coastal Health. These changes radically alter what Hudson PAC can do with its Lunch Fundraiser program. This program, whereby parent volunteers provide lunch for Hudson children, has been ongoing since the end of World War II. It’s a part of the fabric of the school.
The PAC Exec’s very preliminary review of the PDFs attached indicate there will be a huge impact on how the PAC raises funds.
We have asked the VSB via the Principal that we run the program with manageable variations and use the 2014-15 school year to determine solutions and changes.
PLEASE … come to the next PAC Meeting on May 13 to express to the Principal how important the program is.
