Traffic Safety Notice
During drop off on York Street, it was observed last week that about 60 cars cram into the drop off zone on York street from 8:45 to 9:05. There is great concern that there is going to be a fender bender or, worse a child hit by a car.
With the nicer weather, there are more cyclists, cars, skateboards, scooters and pedestrians. Plus, the City of Vancouver still working on changes to Cypress St.
If you are accompanying a child to his or her classroom, and are driving, we suggest that you park on West 1st, Chestnut or York east of Cypress. (Meters are free until 9 AM) Then, walk the block to the school.
Give yourself more time!
If dropping off, the drop off zone is intended for (and only has room for) a car pulling up, letting a child off, and leaving. Parking on York west of Cypress is a fiasco.
Take a moment to imagine how awful you will feel forever if you hit a child.
Sports Day is May 17 and we need your HELP!
Typically the Hudson PAC has 6 people on the field helping out mostly with handing out juice and cookies. However, it’s also a Hot Lunch day so we need extra bodies. The day starts at 9 AM. Can you help out? Please contact Marina Bondarenko at musea79@hotmail.com or 604.908.7855.
Attention Cycling Enthusiasts!
Are you a bike enthusiast? Do you want to encourage Hudson students to ride to school or make use of our Vancouver bike lanes?
Bike to School Week is looking for a parent volunteer to champion a week of fun each year and get our students pedalling! Could this be YOU? Without someone or group of special someone’s to step forward, this initiative will not happen at Hudson…
The week traditionally happens at the end of May. As a volunteer you could organize anything you can dream of!
In the past, there have been bike parades, bike decorating, tracking of bike trips by students and staff, a biker’s breakfast, Vancouver Police safety assembly and bicycle registry, bicycle safety checks and bicycle rodeo games.
You would be a liaison between Hudson and HUB, the community organizer of Bike to Work & School Week. You can get more information about this event and HUB at bikehub.ca/bike-to-school/bike-to-school-week.
Please contact Chantal Minten with any questions or if this interests you – minten@novuscom.net or 778-875-0810.
